The New York Yankees have found a better replacement for injured catcher Jorge Posada than current replacement Jose Molina, by trading Kyle Farnsworth for Ivan Rodriguez:
"He's hitting over .290 I believe and he's been hot so we're looking forward to having him," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after New York's 13-3 rout of the Orioles on Wednesday.
Rodriguez, who is in the final year of the contract he signed with the Tigers in 2004 that will ultimately pay him $50 million, waived his no-trade clause to join the Yankees.
"Pudge has always wanted to play in New York and Detroit felt it needed a relief pitcher, so both sides were able to get what they wanted to some degree," Rodriguez's agent Scott Boras told The Associated Press.
Rodriguez is batting .295 this season with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 82 games. In 18 seasons with the Rangers, Marlins and Tigers, he's hit .302 with 293 homers and 1,214 RBIs.
A 14-time All-Star, Rodriguez won the American League MVP award in 1999 and for years was known as the best defensive catcher in the game. He earned Gold Gloves in 13 seasons.
"He's been a great player for a long time and I remember the battles we had in Texas. He's been a world champion," said Girardi, who was a member of the Yankees during playoff battles with the Rangers in the 90s.(ESPN)
This is a surprise move from the Yankees because there was no discussion about the Yankees going after Ivan Rodriguez. I had heard plenty of rumors about the Yankees looking for another catcher but most of those discussions were for players like Gerald Laird, Paul LoDuca, Miguel Olivo, etc. There was never any mention about the Yankees acquiring Pudge.
It's not surprising that they would trade Kyle Farnsworth because Brian Bruney is back from his injury and is currently pitching in the minors right now on rehab. Bruney will probably come up and replace Farnsworth in the bullpen. Chad Moeller will probably lose his spot as the back up catcher to make room for Pudge.
Pudge is certainly a major upgrade over Molina offensively for the Yankees, who have struggled to score runs at times throughout the season. Pudge alone will not make the Yankees offense better but acquiring him along with Xavier Nady should help their offense some.
For this season, I think this is a great trade for the Yankees because they are selling high on Farnsworth, who is pitching better than he ever has for the Yankees. Pudge will certainly help the Yankees this season, plus it's possible they could acquire 2 draft picks for Pudge if they offer him arbitration after the season.

I’m a big Yankees fan, coz they are really professional baseball team! I used to attend their games just to see their professional plays. They have captivated millions of fans. And they are also the best-selling American team even their tickets are hard to come by and often sky high. Thankfully I found a website where I found cheap ones. Now I will have the chance to attend all their games with low prices. Here is the link; I thought this will interest you:
